Freeze-dried coffee powder is made from higher-quality coffee beans that have been delicately treated at low temperatures to maintain the coffee’s aroma and flavour. Freeze-dried coffee powder is the highest quality instant coffee. It is crushed into granules after being frozen to a temperature of around – 40°C. This helps to keep nutrients, as well as flavour and colour, from deteriorating.

Grinding roasted coffee into roasted fine-ground coffee is the first step in the manufacturing process. Roasting, cooling, and grinding are followed by extraction of the resultant mixture, concentration, filtration, and sublimation to provide a concentrated liquid coffee extract for readily available foam.

It is possible to make instant freeze-dried coffee with the flavour and aroma of freshly brewed normal coffee. Before foaming at a lower temperature, below 10° C, ordinary roasted fine ground coffee is combined with concentrated liquid coffee extract. The fine grinding of the coffee ensures that the particles inside the granules of the finished freeze-dried coffee product are homogeneous in size.

Additional Information

The freeze-dried coffee particles are made out of typical roasted fine ground coffee and have a strong coffee aroma similar to freshly brewed regular coffee, as well as a colour spectrum varying from light to dark brown. The time it takes for the coffee granules produced by this process to dissolve in water at 96° C is less than 30 seconds, which is characteristic of instant coffee.
